Finch Hutton is the latest culinary masterpiece, in a very long line of culinary masterpieces, by Chef Rafael Ruiz. For those of you who have partaken of the creative morsels of Chef Rafael, enough said. For those of you who have not, boy are you in for a treat. Finch Hutton is the culmination of Chef Rafael's life-long dream to own, operate and create delicious culinary delights in his own Austin-esque establishment. Upon hearing that Chef Rafael had recently opened his dream, I could not wait to get there. This past week I rushed to Boston Avenue giddy with anticipation to once again have the dishes prepared by his artistic genius. Once again, I was not disapointed.
Finch Hutton has mastered the art of intimate ambience, filling its walls with a seductive tawny-port-tinged glow and dressing its tables in linens the color of a swan. The restaurant's passion for a pristine setting, fine food, and great service are morsels from the creative mind of owner and chef Rafael, who has been enthusiastically handing out delicious morsels as a master chef for more than 15 years. Whet your appetite with today’s Epon: for $25, you get $50 worth of upscale eats at Finch Hutton on Boston Avenue in Nederland, and the drive is more than worth it. This Epon is valid for dinner only and may not be used toward alcohol.
Finch Hutton's dinner menu is replete with elegant steak, seafood, and poultry dishes that are infused with Southern flavors. Chef Rafael's signaure appetizer, Tuna Tower ($8.95), topples the Leaning Tower of Pisa in architecture. The garlicy Lamb Burger ($12.99), with blue cheese crumbles, roma tomatoes, and lettuce chiffonade, or the Steak Diane ($28.95), a peppercorn encrusted filet of tenderloin, served with cognac shallot sauce, transports taste buds to outer-space faster than most nuclear fueled jet-packs.
