Upon crossing the threshold of Mannings Texas on Wheels in Beaumont, or Spinning Wheels in Orange, a barrage of shimmering lights and colors assault the senses. A disco ball scatters rainbow shards of light throughtout the rink. A glossy wooden rink acts as the centerpiece of the whimsical decor, packed with roller skaters during public hours. The vibe of open sessions evolves throughout the week. Rollers glide like pros, and partygoers zoom around the oval track during birthday bashes. A snack area offer safe haven for the athletically averse or those still mastering bipedality.
I spent every Friday night of my childhood at this skating rink. Speeding around listening to Danger Zone and Love Shack. Back then there was pinball and the birthday seat and rollerblades hadn't been invented yet. When you won races they gave you a ding dong and a coke. Since way back then I've been back a few times for private events and most recently roller derby. This place has changed with the times. Now they play the top ten, the snack bar is redone, and they rent inline skates. One thing that hasn't changed is how much fun it can be to go get drenched in sweat while you're skating around as fast as you can. I would definitely recommend this place for a private party or event. Manning's has been around for as long as I remember and I hope it stays around for a long time to come. – Zach C.
