SOUTHEAST TEXAS DINERS GIVE FINCH HUTTON 4 STARS:
We had a truly wonderful lunch a couple Saturdays ago. Nice rainy day. Exceptional bottle of wine , shrimp bisque, pork belly salad, truffle infused French fries, Kobe beef burger. Oh my. A fine dining experience! Since then Chef has catered our Winnie Area Chamber of commerce annual banquet. Trust me it is far, far above your usual catered dinner . Once again Chef Ruiz went over and above to make it another fine dining experience, and to top it off, absolutely the best bread pudding ever. If u have not been, run, don't walk, to the finest eating establishment in Southeast Texas! We will be back soon. Save us a place at the bar. – Google User
After a world-class dining tour of New Orleans, our two-couple group headed to Finch Hutton, and confirmed once again that we do actually have a legitimate 5-Star dining option in Southeast Texas.
Yes....we had to wait for about 30 minutes, despite having reservations. But unlike some of the other apparent "problem magnets" that have given reviews, we really didn't care. We simply sat at the bar and had pleasant conversation. We really like the cozy, intimate feel of the place, as opposed to some of the "big box" chains places that dominate our area. And the fact of having to wait for a table is actually a good thing, for obvious reasons.
Upon being seated, the proprietor and head waiter apologized for the wait....again, no big deal for us. The service and food from that point on was superb. The tuna tower appetizer was as good as we had recalled. The creative and fresh salads are a very nice departure from the same-ole-same-ole. The fish dishes are cooked to perfection, with a nice light crust on the grilled grouper, and a spicy more prominent crust on the Blackened Redfish Pontchartrain.
We haven't suffered anything that even approaches indifference or incompetence in any of our visits to F&H, and will continue to enthusiastically include it in our "rotation."
When you go, just recall that you aren't going to a chain on the highway where most everyone is just interested in getting in, eat mass-produced Sysco food, and get out. You have signed on for a "dining experience".....so enjoy it! – Scott C.
